My name is Samuel Afolabi, and I proudly come from Ekiti State, Nigeria. I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of art as a full-time studio artist, and I am currently residing in the bustling city of Lagos State. My journey in the world of art has been marked by various stages of learning and growth.
Early on, I immersed myself in the world of drawing and painting through vocational training. This foundational experience allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the techniques and principles that underpin these expressive mediums. I found joy in translating my thoughts and observations onto paper and canvas, using lines, shapes, and colors to convey emotions and perspectives.
As I continued to explore my artistic path, I was fortunate to gain admission to Yaba College of Technology. This step represented a pivotal moment in my journey, as it provided me with the opportunity to refine my skills and broaden my artistic horizons. It was during my time at Yaba College of Technology that I earned my Ordinary National Diploma (OND), a testament to my dedication and commitment to the world of art.
The world around me serves as a wellspring of inspiration for my creative endeavors. The environment I inhabit, the interplay of colors in everyday life, and the beauty of nature’s forms and textures all captivate my imagination. These elements fuel my artistic vision, infusing my work with a sense of authenticity and vibrancy.
In my creative practice, I predominantly work with oil and acrylic mediums. Each of these mediums offers its own unique set of challenges and possibilities, allowing me to experiment with texture, layering, and blending techniques. Oil paint grants me the ability to achieve a rich depth of color and a sense of timelessness in my pieces, while acrylics enable me to explore vibrant and dynamic compositions with a quicker drying time.
